Community service project Colombo Mahanama College carried out a community service project on June 1 and 2, at Maithri Children's Home, Borella. This Community Service Project was to mark the occasion of awarding of President's Scout Medal to Gayan Chandrima Premaratne, The Snr. Scout of the 59th Colombo Mahanama College Scout Group, and to provide assistance to the Children's Home. As the first step of this programme, Dr. (Mrs.) D.Y. Jayasinghe, Dr. (Miss) Rohini Patabendi and Dr. I.J. Fernando conducted a Health Camp for the inmates of the Children's Home and the necessary medicine was given free of charge. On the same day a Dhammadesana was conducted by Most Ven. Witiyala Kavi Dhaja Thera. The children were served with soft drinks. A musical programme was also conducted to keep the children happy. As the second stage, the Senior Scouts cleaned up Children's Home and painted the walls, doors and windows, thereby giving a facelift to the home. Later the children were served with tea. There was a display of Karate by Sarthvith and Mathew Vidush both from New Delhi, India. At the final Phase of the programme, mosquito nets, stationery, wall clocks etc., were donated for use by the inmates. To make this event a success patronage was given by the Buddhist Society, the Executives Union and the Medical Centre of Sri Lanka Land Reclamation & Development Corporation, Elephant House and National Lotteries Board. |
