Dr. A.A.D. Perera, Advisor on Sports The Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Jeevan Kumaratunga, has appointed Dr. A. A. D. Perera as an Adviser on Sports to the Ministry. Dr. Perera will function in an honorary capacity. Dr. Perera was Consultant in Physical Education and Sports in the Ministry of Education from 1973 to 1981 and Consultant in Sports and Recreation in the Ministry of Public Administration, Local Government and Home Affairs from 1992 to 1994. He had also served in the Department of Health Services as Occupational Therapist/Rehabilitation Officer from 1956 to 1967. Dr. Perera obtained the Diploma in Occupational Therapy, England, in 1956 on a Colombo Plan Scholarship and the Coaches Diploma in Athletics, also on a scholarship, from the German College of Physical Culture, Leipzig in 1966. After further studies, he was awarded the M.Sc. in Athletics in 1969 and the Doctorate in Education (Sports Science) in 1973. |
