JHU to unite with Opposition

by Ranil Wijayapala and Bharatha Malawaraarachchi

The leader of the Jathika Hela Urumaya, Ellawala Medhananda thera yesterday said two of their Members were admitted to Sri Jayawardhana General hospital after being shoved during the scuffle between other MPs in the Parliament.

Addressing a press conference about the incident took place at the Parliament over the oaths taking of Ven. Akmeemana Dayarathana thera, he said it was not the behaviour the people of the country expected from the MPs of the supreme legislature of the country. He added that the Government MPs engaged in a struggle to prevent Akmeemana Dayarathana thera from going towards Speakers Chair after grabbing his robe and holding him from his arms. "This shows that the Government is not tolerating the views of the Opposition", he said.

Uduwe Dhammaloka thera said though their party wished to help the Government in their good endeavours, the party has taken a firm decision following yesterday's incident at the parliament not to support the Government programmes in its future endeavours. "We have taken a decision to unite with the Opposition to fight against the Government", Dhammaloka thera added.

The whole Opposition has agreed not to support the Government in the future. Dhammaloka thera said they have information that fundamentalists were behind the campaign against Jathika Hela Urumaya, a party dedicated for the Sinhala Buddhists of the country.
