Recovering weapons from former NWPC member: MP Range Bandara's guard arrested by Prasad Poornamal Jayamanne Police Constable H. M. Lal Kumara of the Police Reserve Service who was assigned to provide protection to Puttalam District UNP MP Range Bandara has been suspended from service with immediate effect. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Chilaw Upali Ranasinghe said the Police officer was arrested after the Police team recovered weapons from the home of a former North Western Provincial Council UNP Member in Chilaw. The police last week raided the residence of the former UNP member of the NWP Council in Chilaw and arrested five suspects while recovering a haul of weapons including two grenades, a T 56 rifle, a .22 revolver, a 9 mm pistol, 30 rounds of T 56 cartridges, four .22 bullets, nine 9 mm cartridges, one smoke bomb and a hand grenade. The T 56 rifle was alleged to be the one issued to the Police constable now in custody. Police sources added that steps would be taken to question the UNP MP and arrest the former PC Member." They are both not in their respective residences at present. We have two special police teams deployed in this regard", the sources said. |
