100 EU companies to participate in EU-Sri Lanka Partenariat Delegates from 100 European companies are expected to arrive here next week to participate in the EU-Sri Lanka partenariat, a two-day business matchmaking event providing a unique opportunity for Sri Lankan and European companies to explore the possibility of establishing long-term business partnership. The EU-Sri Lanka Partenariat 2004, a joint venture of the European Commission and the European Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka (ECCSL) will be held in Colombo today and tomorrow. It is expected that trade and investment between EU and Sri Lanka will be enhanced, and joint ventures and marketing cooperation agreements will be established between Sri Lankan and EU companies. The companies participating in this event cover Agro Foods, Education Services, Leisure and Tourism, IT and Electronics and Machinery and Light Engineering. The 150 Sri Lankan companies which were screened several months ago and chosen to participate in this event are now finalising their preparations to meet members of European companies. The following trade promotion organisations in the European Union were entrusted with the task of identifying the European companies to participate in this event. The British Chamber of Commerce - UK, Euro Info Centre Malar Region (Europa Institutet) - Sweden, Chamber of Commerce of Southern Sweden, Mondimpresa SCPA - Italy, Direccion General de Politica de la Pyme - Spain, Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry - Portugal, IHK (Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry - Germany, Austrian Federal Economic Chamber - Austria, Assemblee des Chambres Francaises de Commerce et d'Industrie (ADFCI) - France, North Denmark EU Office - Denmark, Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce - Luxembourg, Netherlands Council for Trade Promotion (NCH) - Netherlands, Chambers of Commerce of Ireland - Ireland, SEVE - Exporters' Association of Northern Greece - Greece, FINPRO - Finland, and Asiafco scri - Belgium. In addition several Sri Lankan Embassies in the EU have successfully promoted this event and have obtained the participation of European companies. The profiles of the local and visiting European companies are already available on the event Website. Several visiting European companies are looking for joint venture partnerships with Sri Lanka companies. The European Commission Delegation in Sri Lanka is pleased with the response received from the Sri Lanka and EU companies and is confident that this would be the largest and the most successful one on one matchmaking event to be held here. |
