CH and FC have the edge over Army The Colombo Hockey and Football club will go all out to preserve their unbeaten record by overcoming the Sri Lanka Army in their Caltex 'A' Division League rugby match at Maitland Crescent at 4.45 p.m. today. The lads from Maitland Crescent remain unbeaten having beaten Air Force (23-12), Navy 41-15), Police (8-3) and Havelocks (26-0) while the soldiers suffered a humiliating 10-41 defeat at the hands of CR and FC having won four matches in a row against Navy (33-5), Police (9-8), Old Zahirians (29-15) and Havelocks (24-11). The soldiers will be at full strength with the return of flanker Karunaratne and full back T. A. Silva and are expected to give a much better performance today. Up front a close tussle for supremacy can be expected with the marauding CH forwards Cooray, Ranaweera, Wijeyesinghe, Bandara, Lewke, Rakata and Jayasekera being confronted by equally good forwards in Kotalawala, Rajapakse, Jayasuriya, Karunaratne, Madurasinghe and Pascal Watukeha. However the CH and FC boast of a superior back division. The halves combination of Roy Nishantha and Saranga Jayakody have hit off smoothly while Jim Bolokoro, Rukshan Wijesinghe and Dinesh Kumara are hard runners who are capable of breaching the Army defence with full back Nalin Dissanayake joining the line to form the overlap. Army's three quarters have failed to impress this year. The new halves combination of Wijesinghe and Peiris have failed to click and they will have to give a much better display it they are to make the maximum use of the possession which comes their way. CH and FC - Sashika Cooray, Sameera Wijeyesinghe, (Captain) Jayantha Ranaweera, Senaka Bandara, Bertie Jayasekera, Asanka Thalagalarachchi, Kinijoji Rakata, Dushanth Lewke, Roy Nishantha and Saranga Jayakody, Rukshan Wijesinghe, Jim Bolokoro, Varuna de Silva, Dinesh Kumar, Nalin Dissanayake. Army - Kotalawala, Y. P. Rajapakse (Captain), Sujith, Nishantha Jayasuriya, Susantha, Saman Madurasinghe, Herathge Karunaratne, Pascal Watukeha, P. G. Wijesinghe and Ajith Peiris, Perakum Fernando, Kapila Knowlton, Edwin Shimanga, Kumara T. A. Silva (R.S.) |
