Ven. Kathaluwe Rathanaseeha Thera makes statement to Moratuwa Magistrate

The Venerable Kathaluwe Rathanaseeha Thera made a statement before the Moratuwa Magistrate S. Buhuran, yesterday. He was believed to be taken away by a group of Buddhist monks who were allegedly as members of Jathika Hela Urumaya and obtained his signature for a letter, Rupavahini stated in its news bulletin last night.

The Venerable Thera has now returned to the Rawathawatta Temple in Moratuwa. The Venerable Rathanaseeha Thera submitted a affidavit to the Moratuwa Magistrate yesterday morning saying that he was not abducted. However, Senior SP Willie Abeynayaka told Courts that Police investigations should be continued as there was evidence regarding the abduction of the Venerable Kathaluwe Thera.

The Moratuwa Magistrate decided to record a statement from the Venerable Rathanaseeha Thera as there were discrepancies between the submissions made by the Police and the relevant affidavit submitted by the Venerable Thera.

The Magistrate said that he will seek the advice of the Attorney General regarding this matter. Accordingly, the case will be taken up for hearing on the 6th of July.

Senior SP Mt. Lavinia, Willie Abeyanayaka said that a suspect was identified at a special identification parade, held regarding the case of abduction of the Venerable Rathanaseeha Thera.
