One expressway linking network of roads - PM

by Asela Kuruluwansa

Instead of constructing several high speed highways throughout the country, the Government has paid attention to constructing one express way linking the network of main roads in the country, disclosed Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse addressing the officials of the Road Development Authority at a discussion held in Kandy, yesterday (25).

He said that the Moratuwa University and Engineering experts have been instructed to prepare the blueprints for the intended programme which involve development of main roads and result in a saving of a large amount of Government funds that have to be spent as compensation to people whose lands have to be acquired.

The Premier further said that in collaboration with Local Government bodies, a systematic plan will be formulated to develop by-roads and all main roads in the town of Kandy.

The bridges at Katugastota and Getambe, the main causes of traffic congestion, will be widened soon, he said.
