by Indika Polkotuwa Freedom Alliance Chief Ministerial Candidate for the Central Provincial Council elections and former Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake has thanked President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga for ordering a compensation payment of Rs. two million to Audit Officer, Lalith Ambanwala who was subjected to an acid attack during the period of the UNP regime. He said on behalf of the people of the Central Province he wished to express their gratitude to the President for this sympathetic act. Mr. Ekanayake said bribery and corruption reigned supreme during the UNP regime. Mr. Ambanwala had to pay the price for going to probe one such act. The President's reward to Mr. Ambanwala will be a source of encouragement to honest public officers of his calibre. |
