Dengue eradication in Moratuwa disrupted

by Hemasiri Dheeraratne

The Dengue Eradication Programme jointly organised by the Moratuwa Municipal Council scheduled for May 21 was disrupted due to political interference as evidenced by the writings on walls in the Moratuwa area.

About 40 workers of the Moratuwa Municipal Council who were to carry out the Dengue Eradication Programme were moved away by the Moratuwa M.C. ruling party for the purpose of hoisting banners and erecting the stage at Soysapura, for the ceremony to felicitate Prof. G. L. Peiris who was reappointed UNF Organiser for Moratuwa.

This has caused the suspension of the Anti-Dengue Programme.

The Moratuwa residents who were aggrieved by the sudden suspension of the health conducive Anti-Dengue Campaign has written on walls a slogan "G.L. maduruwekda?" (Is G.L. a mosquito?).

Moratuwa MC Opposition Leader Anusha Gunasekera, commenting on the issue said that an impeachment motion will be presented against the ruling party including Ravinath Gunasekera at the next Municipal Council meeting to register the people's protest in connection with this betrayal of people's welfare.
