Solheim here Monday

by Ranil Wijayapala

Norwegian special peace envoy Eric Solheim will arrive in Sri Lanka Monday evening, for discussions with the Government and the LTTE over prospective plans for the commencement of peace talks, diplomatic sources told the Daily News yesterday.

Though Norwegian Deputy Foreign Minister Vidar Helgessen is also scheduled to arrive in the country with Solheim, his visit was cancelled yesterday due to unavoidable reasons, the sources added.

The Norwegian special envoy is also scheduled to visit Kilinochchi. However, there is no confirmation whether Norway is due to make an announcement regarding the resumption of peace talks.

The Norwegian Government, following the discussion the Norwegian Foreign Minister Jan Peterson and Deputy Minister Vidar Helgessen had with the Government and the LTTE, was due to make an announcement on the resumption of peace talks soon.
