LTTE cadre killed in LTTE controlled area

by Ranil Wijayapala

An LTTE cadre has reportedly been killed in an explosion on Thursday night in the LTTE controlled areas in Aalankerni in Batticaloa, Defence sources said yesterday.

Military Spokesman Colonel Sumedha Perera told the Daily News yesterday that the Security Forces in Batticaloa reported an explosion from the LTTE controlled area in Vakarai around 9.40 pm but got no details.

However, following the incident the LTTE yesterday asked Security Forces permission to bring a body of LTTE cadre Suntharapillai Subashan to the Government controlled area around noon yesterday.

"The Security Forces gave permission for the LTTE to bring the body to the Government controlled area," Perera added.Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission Spokeswoman Agnes Bragadottir told the Daily News that the truce monitors in Batticaloa on information received from Security Forces had visited Vakarai last morning.

The latest killing will increase the tense situation in the Batticaloa following a series of killings of both LTTE cadres and Security Forces personnel.
