SLMC's Majlis Al Shoora puts Hakeem on the mat

SLMC leader Rauf Hakeem who is at the centre of an alleged love scandal that has rocked the Muslim community has been castigated by the Majlis Al Shoora of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress for creating a conflict between the SLMC and the Government.

A statement issued by the Majlis yesterday states: At the time the Government is in the process of resuming the peace talks the conflict created by the Leader of the Muslim Congress between the Government involving the Executive President into the conflict damages the political struggle carried out by the Muslims a great deal.

After every general elections the party experiences splits within it and that it fails to give its proper participation in the main political stream of the country, says Asseikh Mashudeen Inamullah the Chairman of the 'Majlis Al Shurah' (a supreme body) of the Muslim Congress.

"We therefore request the High Command and the Politburo of the Party to initiate immediate action to amend the Party Constitution to accommodate a collective leadership to the Party which will eliminate singleman dictatorship and personal wishes and feelings of any individual taking prominence in the Party.

The leadership should take prompt action to stock making any attempt in exposing the internal problems to the medias with the intention of politicising them. Steps taken by the leadership on wrong guidance and advice to publicise the internal affair of the Party in the Sunday Leader and Navamani has caused tremendous damages in the Muslim politics.

The elected Members of Parliament cannot be responsible for the situation created by the leadership of Muslim Congress by involving HE the President and responsible Ministers into the scandal which is now under investigation by authorities.

The recent telecast in the private TV which was a creation pre-planned with a hidden objective to trap certain elected MPP to a false allegation, compelled us to spare a news conference with the view to establish the innocence of those MPP.

In this circumstance we request an independent inquiry on this matter by a committee consisting of Ulamas and until the completion of such inquiry the Leader of the Congress be not permitted to preside or participate in any of the meetings of the High Command, Politburo or the General Assembly of the Party.

Also we earnestly request entire membership of the Party to maintain peace and order among them and to avoid any split between them."
