Remains of Vipula Prasad scheduled to arrive today Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse's prompt intervention and efforts accelerated the process of airlifting the remains of K.Manjula Vipula Prasad of No. 25, Gomes Lane, Gunasinghepura, Colombo 11, from London to his residence at a low cost, stated a media release from the Prime Minister's Office yesterday. Vipula Prasad came by his death as a result of a brutal assault by a black foreigner in London. Premier Rajapakse who read the news in the Divaina newspaper of May 17 responded immediately to the victim's wife's appeal to bring down the body to Sri Lanka and contacted the Sri Lankan High Commissioner in UK instructing him to take immediate steps in that regard. The Premier contacted all parties concerned in London and called for an immediate inquiry and requested for optimum justice for the aggrieved party. He then negotiated with a funeral undertaker in the city of Wembly to attend to the body free of charge and thereafter made arrangements with SriLankan Airlines to fly the remains at half of the normal cost. The Premier informed the close relatives of the bereaved family that under the circumstances the body will arrive in the island today and thanked all those who helped him on this occasion. |
