Cuban Ambassador denounces interventionist measures by P. Krishnaswamy Cuban Ambassador in Colombo, Enna Viant, reacting to the May 6 announcement of the US government on new political and economic measures against Cuba said that it was even more aggressive and hostile. This escalation of interventionist measures should be denounced by the international community, she said. Based on its long standing experience, with equanimity and the sound unity and high political culture of its people, the Cuban Revolution led by President Fidel Castro will immediately respond with necessary counter measures, she said. She said it at a media conference held at the Embassy last week. She further said: "President Bush restated his hatred and aggressive attitude towards the Cuban people, repeating his usual cynical attacks. Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemispheric Affairs, Roger Noriega made an announcement in which he gave details of a report given to the US President by the "Commission for Assistance to Free Cuba". Among the strategic measures for achieving the overthrow of the Cuban government, the document lists increasing support to internal counterrevolutionary elements and stepping up international camapigns against Cuba. "The harsh and brutal measures that, in addition to a blockade lasting 45 years, were adopted by the US against Cuba are directly aimed at suffocating our development and reducing to a minimum the hard currency resources which are indispensable to meet our people's needs of food, healthcare and educational services as well as other essentials", the Cuban Ambassador said. |
