Students representative on Mahapola Board Trade, Commerce and Consumer Affairs Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle has decided to implement an accelerated program to assist the university students who are not receiving Mahapola assistance, after considering their problems seriously. He said so at a meeting of the Sri Lanka Freedom Students' Association representatives, organised by the Association's Secretary, Deputy Finance Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya at the Parliamentary Complex. The representatives have informed the Minister that the previous government delayed the payment of Mahapola Scholarship awards until holding of the Mahapola Scholarships awarding national festival and the Minister has promised them that he wouldn't delay these payments as done by the previous government. Student representatives have brought to the notice of the Minister that there are a lot of students not receiving the Mahapola award and the amount paid is too little. At the request of the students, the Minister has decided to appoint student representatives to the Mahapola Management Board and to the proposed Mahapola Advisory Council. While appreciating the Minister's decision to appoint a student representative to the Mahapola Higher Eduction Scholarship Trust Fund, the students said they had to wait for several months to get an appointment to the Minister of the previous government. |
