Asian Junior TT tourney from July 19 to 24 The Table Tennis Federation of India will organise the South Asian Federation Junior Table Tennis championships from 16th to 18th July, 2004 and the 10th Asian Junior Table Tennis championships from 19th to 24th July, 2004 in New Delhi, India. The TTASL has decided to send one contingent consisting of a boys and girls team to participate in both championships. Selection to the team is purely after considering the performance at the three trials, which would be conducted by the TTASL under the watchful eyes of the Selection Committee. It is also pertinent to mention that the trials are held for those belonging to the age category of under 18 years as at 1st January, 2004. 1st trial: May 26, 2004, 2nd trial: May 31, 2004, 3rd trial: June 2, 2004. Venue for all trials will be S. Thomas Indoor Stadium from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. each day. The following players have been called for trial/s in accordance with the rankings for 2003. Boys - Gihan M. Liyanage, Tharindu Samaraweera, Milinda Lakshitha, Samuditha Ishan, G. P. H. Sajith, C. P. Liyanage, Chameera Chathuranga, Hasitha Samaraweera, Kaushika Gunawardane. Girls - Sanduni Kavithilaka, Ishara Madurangi, Kalpani Herath, Ruhansi Wijekoon, Nadini Abeygunawardane, Srimali Wimalarathne, Kumari Basnayake, Nelumi Gunasekera, A. C. K. Udugama, Geeshika Perera. A gold medal was won by Sri Lanka in the boys doubles event at the tournament held two years ago in which the team participated. At the previous championships held last year (2003) in Dhaka, Bangladesh, our junior team was more successful by winning a medal tally of two silvers and five bronze while opportunities for gold medals were lost after giving a good fight. |
