Speaker nominee today Members of the Opposition will decide on their next course of action today, when they meet at the Office of the Opposition leader in Parliament prior to enter the chambers to elect the Deputy Speaker of the House and the Deputy Chairman of the Committee. The UNP sources said that members of the Opposition make a final decision at the meeting of the leaders of the Opposition this morning and ruled out possibility of supporting any nominees from the Government to the said two posts. While the TNA is to make its stand known this morning, the Jathika Hela Urumaya sources said that they would act in the same way if the need arises at the election of the Deputy Speaker and the Deputy Chairman of the Committees. Addressing a Bodu Samulu at Maharagama yesterday Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thera said that as the Government had failed to meet their demands, they opt to stand non-committal. But in the event any of the Monks cast their votes in favour of one side they would take steps to nullify such action of the members of his party. Government members were discussing about their nominees at the time this edition went to press. |
