Mrs. Ranee Herath of the Lanka Mahila Samiti of Sri Lanka was selected Area President for Central and South Asia for a period of 3 years of the Associated Country Women of the World at the 24th Triennial Conference held at Hobart, Tasmania, Australia from March 23rd to 29th, 2004. The ACWW is the largest international women's organisation, working with women worldwide for the benefit of rural women, offering mutual support, friendship and practical help to its members, through leadership and skills training, health and nutrition and educational projects, small enterprises and HIV/AIDS awareness programs. Mrs. Ranee Herath was a student of St. Bridget's Convent, Colombo and has been associated with voluntary work for the past 20 years, both in the public and private sector having served as Chairman, Police Families Welfare Association, Executive Committee Member of the Family Planning Association, Committee Member of the National Council for Elders and Treasurer, Vice President and President of the Lanka Mahila Samiti. |
