CID to file plaint against CD pirates

The Criminal Investigations Department informed Chief Magistrate Kusala Sarojini Weerawardene that a plaint will be filed against persons who pirated Compact Discs, cassettes, videos of Torana Music Box. The complaint was made by the owner of Torana Music Box, Sarath P.S. Kothalawala of Colombo 5 on March 11, 2004.

Earlier the Criminal Investigations Department had raided the places where the pirated Compact discs, cassettes, videos were sold, with the search warrants issued by the court on April 23, 2004.

The arrested suspects are D.G.P. Ivan Perera of Ishara CD House, A. M. Sirash of Sanjeewa Enterprise and Video Company, A. Manoj of Grand Video, K. Laksiri Kumara of Lucky Record Bar, A. Nimalsiri Udayanda of Rovintha Record Bar. The suspects were released on a cash bail of Rs. 50,000 and personal bail of Rs. 50,000.

Although the manufacturer from Kadawatha was raided, the CID could not discover anything pertaining to the racket.Criminal Investigations Department conducts further investigations on the issue. Further hearings were put off for June 14, 2004.
