Wadduwa special correspondent Kalutara High Court Judge Sarath de Abrew acquitted all thirteen accused in the murder case. The accused were charged for killing a youth on April 14, 1994 at Amuhunthuduwa, Matugama. Since the evidence of the complainant differed and was insufficient to continue the case. The High Court judge passing the judgement told court that if the accused were involved in the murder of the youth they would be punished by God in the future. He advised the accused that they should not do any harm to the witnesses of the complainant and lead an exemplary life in society. Hewage Don Sirisena, Hewage Don Piyasena, K. W. D. Hemasiri, K. W. D. Pemaratna, K. W. D. Kumarasiri, H. Nimal Dharmasiri, Sanath Wickremasiri Don Hewage, K. W. D. Dharmasiri, K. W. Ratnasiri, K. W. D. Wimalasiri, K. W. D. Pemadasa, K. W. D. Somasiri and H. D. Hemapala were acquitted by the High Court. It was revealed in the courts that the first and second accused were dead. At commencement of the case, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges. State Counsel Navaratna Marasinghe prosecuted while Attorneys-at-law U. R. de Silva, M. D. Piyasena, and Damayanthi Amarasinghe appeared for the accused. |
