Indian delegation here to enhance trade ties By Irangika Range A trade delegation from 10 companies in India met representatives of the National Chamber of Commerce (NCCSL) yesterday in a major move to further enhance trade ties between India and Sri Lanka particularly in areas of investments, joint ventures with local companies and export and import. The Indian businessmen are exploring avenues to strengthen India's trade links with Sri Lankan businessmen basically on textile, textile based products, surgical equipment, rubber stoppers and disposable instruments in bulk. NCCSL, Secretary General Neil Seneviratne said India is the biggest supplier to Sri Lanka. The Textile Association of India plays a key role to promote trade links with the local textile community while NCCSL aims to encourage members of the chamber to promote Indian business to develop the national economy. NCCSL Global Trade Links head Stanley Jayawardena said we earned Rs. 16 billion from exports while we paid Rs. 80 billion on imports from India in 2002. Expecting to improve trade links with this delegation, we will arrange one to one meetings, conferences, hold pre-visit meetings and library and information service. |
