US 100 m dollar outright grant for development from Pramod de Silva in Washington D.C. Nearly US $ 100 million will be immediately available to Sri Lanka as
an outright grant under the US Millennium Challenge Account, Foreign
Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar disclosed yesterday. Sri Lanka was selected
as one of 16 countries eligible for enhanced US aid under the new
Millennium Challenge initiative last week. Ambassador Devinda Subasinghe

Today, Tuesday, asserted that the ceasefire was in no danger of
collapsing. Minister Kadirgamar, in Washington on a four-day official
visit, told CNN that there was absolutely no doubt about the continuation
of the Government-LTTE ceasefire. "There is no doubt about it. The
ceasefire will hold," he stressed. Cabinet decisions The Cabinet approved a decision to revert back to the old procedure for
distribution of School uniform material so as to allow students to collect
their material through the school teacher. The present complicated
procedure, through which the parents were made to wait in long queues and
anguish for hours before bureaucrats to collect coupons for the free
