Satha wins a bet by Sharm de Alwis The rugby credo on the 3Ps may be Possession, Pace and Power but the classic interpretation given as Penalty Percy Perera by Gama Fernando of the flashy tongue used to be more to the point as any rugby buff would remember. Now, Percy had a reputation for being a Scot when it came to a matter of ordering a round of drinks but here at the CR&FC bar when he was the President was none other than Mahadevan Sathasivam of the flashing blade. He was togged up to kill in cream flannels, cravat, All-Ceylon blazer and a straw hat at a raking angle on his head. "Hello, Satha," greeted Percy on seeing the maestro. Satha was dejected. Percy ordered a scotch. Some angled enquiries and Satha pleading, "Don't make it worse for me, Percy. I am getting the hell out of this country. I an on way to the airport." A few more drinks and number five had been ordered. Percy thought of the clock and his purse. "You'll miss the flight, Satha." to which Satha replied as he pulled out his cravat and blazer, "I am not going anywhere. I just had a bet I'd take five drinks off you." Tousche! |
