People are questioning morality of JHU, says Ashraff Congress

People are questioning the morality and attitude of the Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) in voting with UNF contrary to expectations placed on them by the majority of voters, notwithstanding the fact that Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has apparently voted with the UNP on the LTTE's instructions, states the Ashraff Congress.

The Ashraff Congress in a release states:

"The election for the post of Speaker for the 13th Parliament was seen as an unparalleled and unprecedented event in the history of Parliament, as the voting had to be repeated thrice. Under the democratic tradition, the Chair of the Speaker is held with high esteem, dignity and decorum.

It is an admitted fact that each party is entitled to its discretion in voting but every party has a moral obligation to uphold, the expressed aspirations of the voters.

In this context it is disheartening to note that the UPFA which has won 106 seats out of 160 and 14 districts out of 22 in the last general election while securing an overwhelming majority of over 700,000 odd votes over the second highest party was not allowed to elect its candidate as the Speaker.

Obviously the majority of the voters expected the JHU to rise to the occasion and uphold and protect the aspirations of the voters, but it is regrettable to learn that the vast majority of the people are questioning the morality and attitude of the JHU in voting with the UNF, contrary to expectations placed on them by the majority of voters, notwithstanding the fact that the TNA has apparently voted with the UNP on the instructions of the LTTE.

Today in every nook and corner of the country, the commonly murmured question is whether the JHU too, has fallen in-line with the LTTE along with the SLMC and CWC.Now most of the Muslims are impatiently wondering as to how the SLMC could join the band-wagon of the TNA when the SLMC leader has publicly declared that SLMC will never join any group that consists of TNA, which demand an internal self-determination for the Tamils while it is intransigent to recognise such right for the North East Muslims.

As it is clear that the majority of the voters have voted with the UPFA it is a noble duty cast upon the monks of JHU to reflect and safeguard the aspirations demonstrated by the majority of voters in protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country."
