by Nadira Gunatilleke Dharmavijaya Foundation, a Buddhist Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) involved in religious and social welfare activities has organised a Buddhist film festival to raise funds for the organisation to co-inside with the Vesak season, President, Dharmavijaya Foundation, Olcott Gunasekara said. He said that the film festival will be held on May 6, 7 and 8 at 3.30 pm and 6.30 pm at the mini cinema hall of the BMICH, Colombo. The film festival will commence on May 6 by screening Theertha Yaatra (Pilgrimage) directed by prominent film director Wasantha Obeysekera and produced by Chandran Rutnam and Asoka Perera. Ajasaththa, a popular classic Sinhala film based on a historical Buddhist story which is directed by Joe Michael and produced by A. S. G. Wickremaratne will be screened on May 7. Ashoka, a popular Hindi film showed in Sri Lanka recently will be screened on May 8. This will be a rare opportunity to watch popular classic films. A ticket will cost Rs.100 per show. There are 200 seats available in the mini cinema hall. Jinasena Limited (Isuru Foundation, Ja-Ela), Central Finance and People's Bank will sponsor the film festival. The Dharmavijaya Foundation established in 1979 by an Act of Parliament under the patronage of the Most Ven.Aggamahapanditha Madihe Pannasiha Nayaka Thera has a commendable record of service for the well being of society. The objective of the organisation is the socio economic development of Sri Lanka by establishing a righteous (Dharmavijaya) society based on the universal principles of human development enshrined in the five precepts. |
