by Indeewara Thilakarathne Former Chairman, Sri Lanka Cricket Thilanga Sumathipala has filed a contempt matter in the Court of Appeal against the Sunday Leader and its Editor-in-Chief Lasantha Wickrematunga alleging that some remarks made pertaining to his bail application in the Court of Appeal in the article amounts to contempt of Court. The petitioner has cited the Editor-in-Chief of the Sunday Leader Lasantha Wickrematunga, journalist Frederica Jansz and the publisher of the newspaper Lal Wickrematunga as respondents. The petitioner states that an article titled "Thilanga vs the State" that was carried on April 18, 2004, edition of the Sunday Leader include misleading remarks pertaining to the bail application that the petitioner made in the Court of Appeal, amounts to contempt of Court and prayed that the respondent be charged with contempt of Court. |
