United People's Freedom Alliance National list MP Janadasa Peiris resigned at the request of the party yesterday and has been appointed the new Chairman of the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd., with immediate effect. A veteran journalist with a rich experience in the fields of both print and electronic media, Mr. Peiris was the Presidential Media Director General before he was compelled to resign to become a National list candidate of the UPFA, in February. A former Media Ministry Secretary, he functioned as the SLBC Director General and Chairman from 1994 to 2001. Mr. Peiris holds a Degree in Mass Communications from the Kelaniya University. He is the son of former Panadura district MP Henry Peiris. |
