In a press release issued yesterday Mr. Devananda said that after entering the democratic political process following the Indo-Lanka Accord they were now functioning as the Eelam People's Democratic Party. Their consistent policy had been that in order to ensure peace and co-existence within an united Sri Lanka the Central Government should establish regional self government along with a coalition government at the centre. This stand was placed before the people and endorsed at the General and local government elections held in 1994, 2000, 2001 and 2004. Therefore the offering of a ministry to them who are engaged in political activities with the approval and support of the people was an honour bestowed on the entire Tamil speaking people. Minister Devananda said certain stalwarts of the Tamil National Alliance who could not withstand this were trying to abuse and censure them to earn praise from forces which were manipulating them from behind the scenes. It would therefore be appropriate to examine the history of such people. The general public would never heed the criticisms levelled by such deceitful persons as proved by the multitude of messages and greetings received by the EPDP from the people. |
