by Anjana Gamage The Meteorology Department yesterday debunked a rumour that a poisonous air was being pumped into the atmosphere from the construction work of the Katunayake Highway in the Free Trade Zone area. S. H. Kariyawasam, Meteorologist in-charge of the National Meteorology Centre said there was no truth in the rumour. "Intense hot weather prevails in the country. This has caused excessive sweating common to all. There is no reason for anyone to seek medical advice," he told the Daily News. Commenting on the present weather forecast, he said: "At the moment we are experiencing dry weather in the country. There is a large amount of moisture in this dry weather. "The hot weather is greater in the Western coast. The air which emanates from the coastal area is filled with a hot temperature and moisture. That is the main reason for the dry weather". He said the country will experience monsoon rains by end of May. |
