'Football is the world's most popular sport' by Richmond Wijesekera, Bentota Group Correspondent "Football is the world's most popular sport, played by 204 countries in the world. I am very proud to learn that there are a very large number of Lions who had been very good Football players during their school days. Investment on youth is the best way to build up a disciplined society, said Past International Director Lion Mahendra Amarasuriya. He said so at a meeting held at St. Aloysius College Grounds, Galle after distributing Challenge Shields, Trophies and certificates to the winners of the Football Tournament organised by the Galle District Football League and the International Association of Lions Clubs District 306'A'. Lion Mahendra Amarasuriya also thanked the District Governor Lion Marcella Silva for organising this Football Tournament under the guidance of senior vice President Lion Thilina Panditaratne who is also a Lions Leader. President, Galle Football League and Lion Region Chairman (Region 6) Lion N. Tilina Panditaratne said: I am proud to be a Member of the two largest organisations in the world the World Largest Social Service Organisation Lions Club International and the world's most popular sport Football". I take this opportunity to thank District Governor 306 A, Lion Marcella Silva for entrusting me the task of organizing of Football Tournament for the youth. It is also with the blessings of FFSL and its President DIG - Gamini Randeni, I carried out this task. I express my sincere thanks to all those who helped me to organize this Tournament, the sponsor, Tournament Committees, Galle Football League and the Lions members who were Football players during their school days. |
