New APVs for N-Es The Sri Lanka Army has manufactured five Armoured Personnel Vehicles (APV), known as Buffels to be utilised in the North Eastern areas for the use of Government troops. The new APVs manufactured in Colombo are identical to the original Buffels earlier imported from South Africa, military sources said. Sources said the newly manufactured APVs are worth Rs. 3 million each and the Army's Regiment of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers were responsible for the manufacture. The new APVs will join the Special Task Force fleet in the North and the East,a military spokesman said. These vehicles will be ceremonially delivered to the STF at the Army Headquarters on April 15 and formally handed over by the Chief of the Defence Staff and Army Commander Lt. Gen. Lionel Balagalle. The Commandant of the Special Task Force Deputy Inspector General, Nimal Leuke will accept the APVs on behalf of the STF. |
