Indoor cricket team to play three tests in England The Sri Lanka Indoor Cricket team will play three test matches and three unofficial matches during their tour of England from April 16 to 26, 2004. The chairman of the Ceylon Indoor Cricket Association Dakshitha Antony speaking at a press briefing held at the Austasia sports complex said that the tour of England will give the Indoor cricketers the much needed foreign exposure which would stand them in good stead for the 2004 world cup to be staged in Sri Lanka. He was confident that the Indoor cricketers of Sri Lanka will bring honour and glory to Sri Lanka by beating England. Indoor cricket was introduced to Sri Lanka in May, 2001 with an exhibition match between Sanath Jayasuriya XI. and Romesh Kaluwitharana XI. The staging of the mercantile Tournament in the same year was the birth of competitive indoor cricket in Sri Lanka on an invitation Sri Lanka sent a team to take part in the Australian National League Tournament and since then Sri Lanka has taken part in nine more international tournaments. The Managing Director of Calton Lubricants Kishu Gomas said that his firm had achieved the objective of developing indoor cricket by sponsoring it. When sponsoring sport Caltex look at who needs funds-Caltex hopes to develop Indoor cricket to a high standard and help Sri Lanka emerge world champions and also help to promote the game in the outstations. CICA is a very efficient and clean administrative body which is doing its best to popularise the game.
