Three Lankan cricketers in Wisden's Top Forty

Three Sri Lankan cricketers have made it to The Wisden Forty selected by Wisden as the world's top players on the basis of their class and form shown in all cricket during the calendar year 2003.

Off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan, fast bowler Chaminda Vaas and batsman Kumar Sangakkara are among the top 40 players named by Wisden. The list also includes 14 Australians, seven South Africans, five Indians, four Pakistanis, three Englishmen, two New Zealanders and one each from West Indies and Zimbabwe.

The selections were made in consultation with many of the game's most experienced writers and commentators. In the end, though, they were Wisden's choices, guided by the statistics but not governed by them. The selection panel are no more infallible than any other selectors.
