President directs IGP to take all measures to prevent post election violence President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga yesterday reiterated her directive to IGP Indra de Silva for the police to maintain maximum vigilance to prevent any post election violence. She has told the Police Chief to deal sternly with those violating the law and attempting to or causing violence. Secretary to Prime Minister President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga yesterday appointed Lalith Weeratunga as Secretary to the new Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse. Mr. Weeratunga senior officer in the Sri Lanka Administrative Service (SLAS) has been in public service for over 55 years. He was once Secretary to the late Prime Minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike. He has a MBA and a BSc from the University of Colombo. He is a Hubert H. Humphrey Fellow of Pennsylvania State University, USA. Before this appointment Mr. Weeratunga served as the Programme Director in Information & Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) of Sri Lanka and as a Senior Consultant at the Postgraduate Institute of Management. (PIM) Ananda Gunasekera CEB Chief President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has appointed Ananda S. Gunasekera, a senior public servant and former Secretary of the Urban Development and Agriculture Ministries, as the new Chairman of the Ceylon Electricity Board with immediate effect. Jaliya Medagama CPC Head President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has appointed Jaliya Medagama, former secretary of Power and Energy, as the new Chairman of the Petroleum Corporation with immediate effect. |
