The Badulla Agraraian office has started loan scheme for farmers in the 567 Grama Niladari Divisions.

The loans are given through the respective APC. Centres, by the Agriculture Farmers banks. The interest rate is 2%. But the outside Mudalalies charge a rate of 15%.

The main feature of this program is that there are no usual formalities.

The money is given solely on the goodwill of the farmers and the banks.

To implement the program, every experimental and Production Assistant in each village, will deposit in the farmers banks a sum of Rs. 5,000. On the sole trustworthiness of the farmers these officers will give the loans. The loans obtained will have to be paid back within six months.
