Nelson Piyaratana, Kataragama group correspondent The new government will take steps to form a society where the younger generation is expected to respect parents, teachers and elders as our culture is deteriorated and crimes are on the increase, said Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse. Participating at a religious program at Kiriwehera on Wednesday after assuming duties as the Prime Minister, he said that the new government is expected to propagate "Not words but deeds" and execute its duties towards the benefit of Sinhala, Tamil, Muslims, Malays and Burghers. A large gathering including Ven. Dr. Aluthwewa Soratha, Chief Sanganayake of Ruhunu Magam Pattuwa, Ven. Kapugama Saranatissa, Chief Adhikarana Sanganayake of Ruhunu Magam Pattuwa, A. M. Buddhadasa Chief Minister of Uva Provincial Council, and H. G. Sirisena, Chief Minister of Southern Provincial Council participated. Ven. Dr. Soratha said that both Malwatte and Asgiriya Prelates have plans to bring Sri Lanka under one flag. The new government should fulfil it, he said. Later the Prime Minister participated in a Bodhi Pooja at the Ashtapala Bodhi and a Deva Pooja at the Kataragama Maha Devalaya. |
