Go … la latino tonight

by Prasad Abu Bakr

Keith and Narmada Muller started off the Bistro Latino because they wanted to be different and operate on a special theme in comparison to most of the restaurants that operate in the city. Keith a businessman and Narmada the former Public Relations Executive at the Colombo Plaza gave their ambition a vibrant start and made it a successful venture by presenting a novel experience to Colombo's diners who were weary of their routine dining patterns.

Being the first ever Tapas, Wine and Salsa bar in Colombo it was only natural that diners got interested and patronised the place in a hurry and it stayed that way for over the past nine months since it began operations. Besides the food that range from Tapas, finger food that are made perfect to compliment your drinks.

Amongst its famous drinks as Margarita and Sangria, which are also served by the jug, barman 'Raj' offers the special Peach Margarita which is a must if you ever visit the Bistro Latino.

There are also hot Mexican favourites in the way of food such as Enchiladas, Fajita, Buritto etc; As the restaurant completes one year soon it is planned to enhance its menu with many new additions which will keep the taste buds of many of its patrons enriched.

Besides the wonderful dining experience it has to offer the Bistro Latino has a planned programme for dance and music enthusiast as well and is willing to teach you if you are a newcomer to the scene. DJ Deepal obliges you with Salsa, Merengue and Latin music every Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, on which days the place wraps up ops a little later than usual. On these nights the restaurant is patronised by merely more than diners.

Dance instructor 'Vasantha' will take you along a few steps of Salsa dancing on these nights while on Tuesday nights he will make you try out a few steps in the way of Cha Cha, Latin dancing and Jive.

So even if you are not an accomplished dancer you are invited to try a few steps that can take you a long way if you ever decide to go out dancing at the Bistro Latino or any other place.

Situated down Duplication Road with its remarkable theme sign representing the sun (see insert) decorating its spear edged wooden fence in the way of outdoor lightings the interior of this venue too can be viewed as different in comparison to many of the other dining venus of the city.

Painted in flaming colours such as Yellow, Orange and Red, one can notice the sun sign used as the main symbol on the stunningly beautifully painted ceiling and also in the way of metal lamp shades that are hung from the ceiling, illuminating it bringing out the flamboyant colours at its best.

In its warm and compact sitting area the Bistro Latino provides an atmosphere for dining and dancing that many other restaurants in Colombo have overlooked as the 'set menu' for an evening of wholesome entertainment.
