New Year prizes for Sampath Bank customers

Sampath Bank will award special prizes for its customers during the New year festive season.

The prizes will be awarded to customers who deposit Rs. 10,000 in a new or existing Double S or Pubudu Bank Account on April 14. They would be required to maintain this amount for one year. All branches of Sampath Bank will be open for New Year transactions on April 14 from 7.00 am.

BoC Ran Kekulu gift vouchers

The Bank of Ceylon (BoC) will launch Ran Kekulu gift vouchers to coincide with the Sinhala and Tamil New year to promote its Ran Kekulu children's savings scheme.

BoC Assistant General Manager Business Development Nimal Peiris said that Ran Kekulu gift vouchers can be used as an ideal gift for a festive season such as the Sinhala Tamil New Year while boosting its Ran Kekulu savings scheme.

Caltex awards outstanding German Tech students

Caltex Lubricants Lanka Limited in their attempt to gear the future generation with knowledge on the latest technology in the lubricants industry presented awards and certificates to a group of final year students from the Ceylon-German Technical training institute (CGTTI), following their successful completion of a special course on 'Lubrication and its applications' recently.

Avurudu Udawa at Browns Browns Beach Hotel, Negombo has organised a traditional Aluth Avurudu Uthsawaya for their in house guests on April 10 at the hotel premises. "We have lined up so many traditional Avurudu games to entertain our guests. We are organising this event to show our cultural values and show them the uniqueness of our culture", said DGM Felix Rodrigo.

There will be cultural shows, live cooking of Kevum and Kokis, Raban playing, boiling of milk, Avurudu games such as Kotta pora, Eying of the Elephant, Kana mutti and Tug 'O' war. The final event will be the Browns Avurudu Kumari.

ITI workshop on jak processing

The Food Product Development Group of the Agro and Food Technology Division of the Industrial Technology Institute (ITI) will conduct a two-day training workshop on Jak processing on April 21 and 22 at the ITI Auditorium at Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7.

The workshop follows requests by those who were unable to participate in programs conducted last year and also due to several requests that have been received from the public to commercialise their harvest and prevent waste.

Eagle Insurance promotes safety during festive season

Eagle Insurance Company has launched a comprehensive safety awareness program in a bid to create an accident free environment during the festive season. The emphasis will be on the dangers of lighting firecrackers and driving under the influence of liquor.

This year's Eagle safety awareness campaign is targeted at children and adults. The latter will be exposed to a series of new communications on radio, developed specifically to discourage lighting firecrackers while under the influence of liquor.

The Alumni Association of The University of Peradeniya Colombo Chapter will launch a website www.aaupcc.org on April 10 at 10 a.m. at the Police Pavilion, Colombo 5.

The Chief Guest will be Vice Chancellor, Peradeniya University Prof. Kapila Gunasekera.
