Carvus Lanka to enhance ICT platform in banking sector

By Sudarshana Perera

Carvus Technolgy Group, a USA based company on integrated automation systems with packaged program solutions has started its international marketing wing in Sri Lanka "Corvus Lanka (Private) Ltd" to enter the South East Asia and the Middle East.

The firm will also target to capture Lankan software market particularly in public sector and private sector enterprises providing banking and financial solutions. The new venture is expected to offer considerable job opportunities for local software programmers while transferring USA technology to Sri Lanka.

Country Representative, Corvus International, Mrs Jenny Kandasamy said that the company has invested over Rs 5 million for initial operations and was expecting to invest more capital for future expansion. The company has also decided to set up its international marketing wing in Sri Lanka to enter South East Asia and the Middle East.

Mrs Kandasamy said Corvus Lanka would pass its expertise to programmers through education and training while vesting the responsibility of software development and marketing. This strategy has worked very well in other countries for Corvus and our professionalism and creative approach will enhance the ICT platform in every sector particulary the banking sector in the country.

She said that Corvus has implemented its Real-time Gross Settlement System (RTGS) and the General Ledger (GL) in Central Asian countries in Central Banks and Treasuries which serve as the backbone of the State.

With the RTGS system implemented in Sri Lanka, the leading State and Commercial Banks could switch on to the latest technology to make the optimum use of the systems made available recently at the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

The software namely "CorvusBank" is equipped with a special module called the "Entry Terminal for the Payment System". As the software Corvus offers is on an open platform and uses client-server architecture, commercial database management system Oracle, Internet and OLAP technologies and transition to the up-to date system is quite cost effective to the banks.

The systems already in use could be optimally integrated with the CorvusBank modules thus reducing the cost of implementing a totally new solution.

She said that another very important feature of CorvusBank is the Module for Bank Supervision System.

The CorvusBank software also include features such as internet technologies, common standard interface, Multilinguistic, advanced reporting system, modern technical platform, international standards compliance and modern level of accounting. Corvus's history began in 1990, with the founding of the company Corvus Limited in Moscow.
