President's College face tough task against PoW

by Chris Dhambarage

Two exciting games are on the cards as the four top teams will battle for honours in the Elephant Lemonade Cup inter school limited overs cricket tournament semifinals in Colombo today.

The 'A' division league champions President's College Rajagiriya will take on Prince of Wales College Moratuwa at Braybrooke Place while D. S. Senanayake College will confront St. Peter's College at the P. Saravanamuttu Stadium.

President's College will have a tough task as the Cambrians have produced some outstanding cricket to reach the last four of the tournament. They were placed third in the 'A' division league points table with four outright victories and now they have a good chance to prove themselves against a better side. The key player in the Prince of Wales team will be their vice captain Amila Sandaruwan who is one of the top run getters in the current season.

President's College have certainly lived upto expectations as the league champions and have put themselves in contention for a fine double. They have proved that their success in the league tournament was not a fluke by overcoming some of the more fancied opponents on their way into the semifinals.

Meanwhile D. S. Senanayake College and St. Peter's College will battle it out in the other semifinal with both teams having an equal chance of reaching the final. Even then St. Peter's performances is quite significant because they were placed ninth in the 'A' division league points table.

They have really improved during the knock out stage and proved their capabilities by defeating Royal in the quarterfinals.

D. S. Senanayake College too have made amends in the last few outings after being placed fourth in the 'A' division league points table. They have a very good all round side with a number of experienced players in their ranks with Sri Lanka youth caps Sudeera de Zoysa and Kanchana Gunawardena leading the way.
