If such an invitation is made, we will consider it at that time, he told a media briefing at Trans Asia hotel, Colombo yesterday. Thondaman said the press conference was called to clarify various news stories that the CWC is waiting to help form a Government and also to introduce the MPs elected from the CWC. He said at the previous election, only three MPs were elected from the CWC. But this time ,the plantation community have increased this to 8. This clearly indicates the confidence placed in the CWC by the people. At present the CWC has risen to the position of a national party which has ability of function as an independent political party without joining any Government. " I have no obstacle to serve the voters even as a cabinet Minister or as the Leader of the CWC," he said. He said there were occasions when he and his grand father acted independently without joining any Government. To a question raised by a journalist that the policy followed by the CWC was to join the party in power and serve their people, Thondaman replied that it had not been so always. Asked whether the CWC had discussions with the Freedom Alliance, he said so far they have not been officially invited for such a discussion.
