Indian High Commissioner first foreign dignitary to call on PM Indian High Commissioner Nirupam Sen called on Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse at his official residence in Torrington Square. The Indian High Commissioner was the first diplomat to meet the new Prime Minister. They discussed ways and means to further strengthen Indo-Lanka ties, the prime ministers office said. The High Commissioner was accompanied by the High Commission's political secretary Taranjit Singh Sandhu. Dental student seeks help to save mother Mrs. Kamala Hettiarachchi (57) of 'Nandana', Thalalla South, Kottagoda, Matara is suffering from acute Leukaemia and Director, Department of Medical Oncology, Oasis hospital Dr. R. S. Jayatilleke has recommended six courses of Chemotherapy and maintenance treatment for two years. The total cost of this therapy and treatment is estimated at nearly Rs. 650,000. Mrs. Hettiarachchi's son Prabath Hettiarachchi says he is a third year dental student at the University of Peradeniya and his father is a native physician who is unable to foot this bill due to his present financial plight. He requests philanthropists and the public to assist his mother's cause by sending whatever financial contributions possible to facilitate her medical treatment.
