Nalanda College principal felicitates Prime Minister

Mahinda Rajapakse's appointment as the new Prime Minister of Sri Lanka fulfilled the hopes of the ordinary masses, especially the Buddhist public said H. U. Prematilleke, Principal of Nalanda College, Colombo in a congralutory message issued yesterday.

The message added that Mr. Rajapakse had the highest regard for Nalanda College among the schools he had attended during his childhood. Sons of Ruhuna had always been at the forefront of liberation struggles in the history of Sri Lanka as evidenced by Kings Dutugemunu, Vijayabahu the Great and Parakramabahu the Great. Born in Ruhuna which produced such great patriots Mr. Rajapakse had rendered a great service by engaging himself in various sectors of the political field for over three decades and his new appointment can be described as an appreciation of his dedicated service.

A lawyer by profession Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse is a humble and kind hearted person who has valuable ideas and this will enable him to play a positive and attractive role in the country's future politico-social path.

Recalling Mr. Rajapakse's visit to Nalanda two years ago in his capacity as Opposition Leader to attend the 'Nalanda Putra Felicitation' ceremony Mr. Prematilleke said the words uttered then by Dr. Rajitha Senaratne who was among the recipients of that award had today come true.

Dr. Senaratne said "Nalanda had so far produced MPs, Ministers and an Opposition Leader but not a single Prime Minister or President. Our good friend and Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapakse has the luck to become a Prime Minister or President and we hope and pray that it will be so".
