Foxhill Supercross on April 17

Dialog GSM will sponsor the motor racing extravaganza in the form of Foxhill Supercross organised by the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) in association with the Sri Lanka Association of Racing Drivers and Riders (SLARDAR) which will be held for the 12th year at the gravel track at Foxhill, Diyatalawa on April 17 commencing at 9 a.m.

The official practices to ascertain the grid positions will be held the previous day.

The President of the SLARDAR Rodney Mason with Mahes Gammanpila too associating said that over 40,000 spectators are expected to witness this grandest motor racing spectacle which has thrilled the thousands in the past with sliding motor cars and air borne motor cycles while the riders and drivers engage themselves in a tussle for supremacy.

The entire proceeds of this racing event will go to upgrade the existing facilities at the SLMA which trains Army officers and also provides them a training in leadership in the battle front.

The brain child of this major racing event is Major General Gamini Goonesekera and co-officers of the SLMA with the assistance of Hans Ralf and SLARDAR made this unique event a reality in 1992.

Year after year this racing event has progressively become popular and the standards maintained by the SLMA and SLARDAR is commendable as they have been upgrading the track conditions with due consideration to provide the thrills to the spectators' and also the competitors' safety.

Last year the Fastest Fox title which is the award for the champion driver was won by Nalin Dilpriya Perera from the Team Caltex with Arvinda Premadasa, Dinesh Deheragoda and Pradeep Jayawardena too putting up some scintillating performance along with Reyaz Farook and Dan Dissanaake. The parallel title for motor cycles was won by Vijaya Kumar who came all the way from India.

But this year he will be up against some top riders Gayan Sandaruwan, Nalin Perera, Ananda, Udesh and Sajith Wedisinghe, Rohan and Jeffrey Buultjens.

The Group A Cars will also see maestro Rohan de Silva, Upulwan Serasinghe, Javidh and Isharq Wahah, Zackie Ismail, Nishan Wasalathanthri, Dilshad Hamdoon, Rohan Wijeratne, Miss Shehera de Silva, Dinesh Senanayake, Kandan Parameswaran, Yoga Perera, amongst many others are expected to thrill the crowds.

A total of 23 events including an event for the kiddies and the ladies is expected to be worked off.

According to the organisers the main sponsor is Dialog GSM and will be co-sponsored by Coca Cola, Lion Alfa Romeo, U.S. Motor Spares, NDL Logistics and KIA Motors (Car Plan).

A full days exciting motor racing events is in store for the motor racing fans.
