He conveyed his personal thanks to all those who dedicated themselves for the victory of the United People's Freedom Alliance. Answering a question by the Lake House correspondent as to his feelings about coming second in preferential votes in the Gampaha District he said that his interest in elections had never been personal and that he was firmly determined to save the country from the disaster the country was heading for under the UNF regime. "I was ready even to sacrifice my place in the Attanagalla seat to build the Freedom Alliance" he said. Commenting further, Anura said that the results of the election clearly displayed the people's contempt for the UNP and that the public servants, the working class and the agricultural community have taught the UNP a memorable lesson this time. "We have understood the aspirations of the people. It is our duty to build up a society free of fraud and corruption. We are dedicated to meet this obligation" stated Anura Bandaranaike. |
