Jiffrey Abdeen - Kandy South Group Correspondent Mahagastote Estate of Pedro Group, managed by Kelani Valley Plantations set an all time record price at the tea auctions for a line of pekoe by selling a kilogramme for a princely price of Rs. 780. The selling brokers for this record-breaking price was Forbes & Walkers Limited and the Managing Agent were DPL Plantations Limited. This tea auction was held on March 30. This record-breaking price had a significant gain of Rs. 165 over the existing record of Rs. 615 also held by the same estate and set in October 23 last year. Mahagastota and Lovers Leap Estates under the same Company have a tradition of making quality teas, especially the pekoes and have been consistently topping the prices for Nuwara Eliya teas in the Ex-Estate category.
