He said that under a Freedom Alliance government pre-school education would be made an integral part of the national education program and a school network with facilities upto G.C.E. Advanced Level would be set up throughout the country. He said the Freedom Alliance would also cry halt to the UNF policy of closing underprivileged schools and resuscitate them by providing them with all physical resources. Mr. Ratnayake who accused the UNP of trying to discredit the Freedom Alliance by distributing a distorted Alliance manifesto contrary to the authentic manifesto titled "Country Forward", said the fake manifesto had deleted all the benefits and reliefs promised by the Freedom Alliance. He reiterated that the Alliance was committed to provide the people with all the benefits and concessions promised in its election manifesto and the UNP need not have any qualms about it. Mr. Ratnayake charged that 1038 schools had been already closed under the UNPs new education policies and another 3000 odd schools had been earmarked for closure. |
