When the Parliament was dissolved all of a sudden, everything came to a stand still. He was addressing an election propaganda meeting held at the Nawalapitiya bus stand. Rambukwella added that there could be no economic growth without peace in a country. Ranil Wickremesinghe, as the head of the Government did everything possible to bring lasting peace to the country. People today could breath, live, walk and attend to their work without any burden on their heads due of to endless struggle towards peace. Instead of six years they were able to work only for two short years during which period the public enjoyed peace thoroughly. Other development projects were under way. The Government could provide job opportunities for all educated youth, if they were allowed to rule the country till the end of their regime. We had a well-organised development plan for the country. As a result of our dedication, we secured a balanced economy. During the past two years, no body has been brought to the villages from the Northern battle field. A large sum of money Rs. 45,000 billion as foreign aid had to be used in the development process. Our next important aim is to find jobs for the jobless. But due to unexpected dissolving of the Parliament, everything got reversed. As such, it is high time for the public to take a clear and correct decision on April 2 and send back the United National Front with a big majority to the Parliament so as to continue the half stopped development work," he said. |
