News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | UPFA committed to safeguard rights of all communities by M.R.M. Niyas, Hambantota Special Correspondent Former Leader of the Opposition, co. organiser of UPFA and Hambantota district Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa, said that the UPFA had the clear cut policy to safeguard the rights of all communities in Sri Lanka and it would be committed to safeguard the rights of the minority communities. He was addressing a propaganda rally in support of UPFA candidates at the Hambantota town on March 28. He said, during the UNP government regime politicians did not serve the masses. Instead they served only a limited number of people for their own benefit, all in all, masses whether they are Sinhalese, Muslims or Tamils gained nothing during the two years of UNP's ruling. It was under the PA government that many development projects were implemented in Hambantota town. The Hambantota hospital was upgraded to a Base Hospital. The town did not have a proper market complex and a bus stand, but it was with the recommendation and commitment of Chamal Rajapaksa, a fully-fledged market complex and a bus stand were constructed, former Opposition Leader said. He said, the Hambantota town was a neglected town when the PA government took over power in 1994. Immediately after assuming duties, we were able to find a permanent solution to floods by implementing a storm water drainage system in the town. All major development projects which were implemented by the PA have come to a stand still under the UNPs regime. What-else people can expect from this Government rather than destruction to the country?. |
